Program Benefits

Remington College’s implementation of the Microsoft IT Academy program combines a traditional college degree with Microsoft's certification-specific training. This creates a program that Remington College believes is distinctive in the IT education industry and the workplace.

Additionally, Remington College has included several other technology standards in this program providing a wide-ranging educational experience for its IT students. They include:

  • Six Potential Microsoft Certifications

The Microsoft IT Academy courses Remington College has selected are designed to help prepare students for the Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) and Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) certifications. Attaining the MCDST requires passing two specific Microsoft Certified Professional exams.

There are two paths to potentially earn an MCSA. One path requires the MCDST and three additional exams. The other path does not require the MCDST, but requires passing four certification exams. Click here for additional Microsoft certification information.

  • Prestige of a Degree

In as little as 24 months students can earn Six Microsoft certifications, while working toward a Computer and Network Administration degree.

  • Microsoft Official Academic Course

LaptopThe Microsoft Official Academic Course (MOAC) is the basis for all of the Remington IT Academy courses. The MOAC is a complete package of learning tools providing IT Academy instructors with items like coordinated textbooks, PowerPoint presentations and standardized lab setups. Students benefit from a consistent Microsoft approved learning environment.

Additionally, many courses have been structured to take advantage of Microsoft's Virtual PC environment.

  • Cisco Systems and Linux Operating System

Remington College's degree program also includes several non-Microsoft-specific components. Some courses concentrate on Cisco routers and switches along with the Linux operating system and the Linux-based email system, Sendmail.

In these courses, students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience using Cisco’s CCNA Network Simulator (installed on each laptop) and Linux deployed using Microsoft’s Virtual PC.

  • Specially Configured Laptop

LaptopEach Computer and Network Administration (CNA) degree student is provided the use of a laptop configured for use in the IT Academy and outside of the school environment. The cost of tuition includes the use of a the laptop computer throughout the program.

The student may keep the laptop after graduation subject to terms set forth in the Enrollment Agreement and the Campus Catalog.

  • Microsoft Student Online Campus†

The Student Online Campus (SOC) is a web-based portal for students enrolled in the Microsoft IT Academy Program. It provides students with access to a wealth of “online campus” resources designed to help students study for Microsoft certification, connect to online courses, find career opportunities, and collaborate with other students and network with faculty and IT Professionals globally.

  • Career Center Portal†

Microsoft’s Career Center portal provides access to a database of job, internship, volunteer, and other career opportunities for students enrolled in a Microsoft IT Academy. It also includes access to resumé writing resources, career tips and newsletters. These opportunities result from Microsoft IT Academy relationships with local businesses, the IT community, IT professional user groups, and MonsterTRAK.
